Psychodal is an atypical (second-generation) antipsychotic. Each tablet contains:
- Risperidone (3 mg): An active agent that functions by balancing the levels of dopamine and serotonin—natural chemicals in the brain that help regulate mood, behavior, and thoughts.
Psychodal 3mg is commonly prescribed for several psychiatric and mood-related conditions:
- Schizophrenia: Management of symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking.
- Bipolar I Disorder: Treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes, either alone or in combination with other mood stabilizers.
- Irritability in Autism: Managing aggression, temper tantrums, and mood changes in pediatric patients.
- Off-Label Use: Sometimes used to manage severe behavioral symptoms in other psychiatric disorders.
Proper administration is critical for therapeutic success.
- Consistency: Take the medication as prescribed by a healthcare professional. Do not stop taking it abruptly without medical supervision, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms.
Common Side Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, increased appetite, and restlessness (akathisia).
Critical Warnings:
- Dementia Warning: There is an increased risk of death when used in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
- Movement Disorders: Consult your doctor immediately if you experience uncontrollable muscle movements in the face or body (tardive dyskinesia).
- Metabolic Monitoring: Long-term use may require monitoring of blood sugar, cholesterol, and weight.
- Temperature Regulation: Avoid exposure to extreme heat or dehydration, as the medication can affect the body’s ability to cool down.
