Each tablet contains 75mg of Cinnarizine. It belongs to a class of medications known as antihistamines and calcium channel blockers. It works by:
- Vestibular Suppression: Blocking histamine receptors in the inner ear to reduce sensitivity to motion.
- Calcium Channel Blockade: Inhibiting the contraction of vascular smooth muscle cells to improve blood flow (microcirculation) in the inner ear.
Cinnarizine 75mg is primarily prescribed for the management of balance and motion-related disorders:
- Motion Sickness: Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting during travel.
- Vestibular Disorders: Relief of vertigo (spinning sensation), dizziness, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
- Ménière’s Disease: Maintenance treatment for symptoms of inner ear disorders.
- Circulatory Issues: Occasionally used for peripheral and cerebral circulatory disorders.
For best results, take the tablets exactly as directed. Important: Take after a meal to minimize stomach irritation.
- Motion Sickness (Adults): Take 1 tablet (25mg) at least 30 minutes to 2 hours before travel. Repeat every 6–8 hours during the journey if needed.
- Vestibular Disorders: Often 1 tablet (25mg) taken 3 times daily.
- Maximum Dose: Do not exceed 225mg (9 tablets) in a 24-hour period.
Common Side Effects: Drowsiness (sedation), weight gain, and indigestion. Drowsiness is common at the start of treatment.
Critical Warnings for 2025:
- Parkinson’s Disease: Cinnarizine can aggravate or induce Parkinsonian symptoms (tremors, muscle stiffness). Use with extreme caution in the elderly.
- Alertness Warning: Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you, as it significantly impairs reaction speeds.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol completely while taking this medication, as it severely increases sedative effects.
- Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Use is generally not recommended unless strictly advised by a doctor.
